If you have an Apple computer, watch, or smartphone you have hopefully already received a notification that you should install an update to your operating system.
And yes, you really should update your devices.
It’s just a couple of weeks since Russian cybersecurity outfit Kaspersky publicised that it had found someone had exploited a zero-day flaw in iOS to sneak spyware onto the iPhones of its middle and senior management.
Kaspersky called the attack “Operation Triangulation”, and described how the malware infected devices via a zero-click exploit in iMessage.
Now Apple has released patches for iOS, macOS and watchOS.
A previously-unknown zero-click remote jailbreak exploit for iOS doesn’t come cheap. Whoever deployed this against Kaspersky must have considerable technical resources, or a substantial budget for purchasing details of an exploitable flaw.
An obvious question to ask is who might be behind a sophisticated spyware attack on Russian security firm Kaspersky?
I’ll leave that question hanging for you, gentle reader, to mull over…
